New Base Area
The excitement in Breckenridge never ends, especially this season with the opening of a brand new base area. The last time Breckenridge Ski Resort launched a new base area was in 1981. Fast forward to this ski season as Breckenridge, the most popular ski resort in the U.S., welcomes a new era and a new level of luxury and service with the debut of Peak 7, a base area featuring high-end lodging at Crystal Peak Lodge, a new ski school, ticket sales and ski rentals, a new sit-down dining experience at Sevens and a new connection between the town and mountain with a first-class, innovative mass transit system via the BreckConnect gondola.
The "brand new" theme continues into the season, as Breckenridge Ski Resort hosts the first of three stops of the inaugural season of the AST Winter Dew Tour, December 18 – 21, 2008. The AST Winter Dew Tour consists of three major, multi-sport events with a cumulative points system, a $1.5 million competitive purse across the three stops. The Winter Tour features skiing (slopestyle and superpipe) and snowboarding (slopestyle and superpipe) for both men and women, and at season’s end, the Tour awards champions in the four disciplines with the Dew Cup. Key lifestyle elements at each Tour event include the Festival Village with video gaming and interactive events, as well as live cutting edge music. All three stops of the Winter Dew Tour will be televised live on NBC.
With all that is new in Breckenridge this season, it is important to remember way before Breckenridge was a ski resort, it was a town. And over the past 150 years, the spirit of the town hasn’t shifted much. All that is new is a reflection of Breck’s rich heritage of equal parts outcast and visionary, frontier and fine living. With Breckenridge's 150th Anniversary taking place in 2009, it is important to reflect on the history, heritage and characters that made this Victorian mining town what it is today and why visitors and locals agree it is the Perfect Mountain Town ™.
